Should I exfoliate the skin on my back or will it worsen acne?

I have had pretty bad acne on my back, but now that I am using head and shoulders (in the shower and after I get out) my acne is almost completely flat on my back. My problem now is all the red marks. I need to know how to get rid of them! It's so stressful. Also, I have heard that exfoliating the skin on my back a couple times each week is good for it. How should I go about doing that? Would a wash cloth work or should i use something else?

thanksShould I exfoliate the skin on my back or will it worsen acne?
If you do decide to exfoliate, I have a great recipe for you. It is good for sensitive skin..It is sugar scrub... Mix in plastic jar since you will be using in shower...Mix one cup extra virgin oil, 1/2 cup sugar/any pure oils, if you want..I like lemon ....mix well and rub in circular motions. Then rinse well. Easy at first until you know your skins tolerance..I love it and it is not expensive and it will only have the fragrance you want it to have,,,

Help!!! How do you exfoliate for my dry, flaky, and acne prone skin?!?

OMG my skin is soooo dry. I had dry skin before, but ever since I started using Proactiv, it has become drier because of the benzoyl peroxide. Proativ has actally helped clear my skin a lot, but it's just really dry. And it's flaky and you can see my skin like peeling off!! It;s so annoying and ugly!!! My make up looks horrible (and I don't even use a lot of make up. I use proactiv makeup). ANd I use moisturizer, but it still doesn't help.

Instead of putting stuff on my face (like moisturizer), I want to take off this dry skin!!! like exfoliate....but how do u exfoliate? what do u use???? like the St. Ives scrubs? I don;t like those....what else?Help!!! How do you exfoliate for my dry, flaky, and acne prone skin?!?
First of all,u should not exfoliate ur skin since this could only make ur skin worse than before.Try to switch to another cleanser that suits dry skin and gives moisture while u cleanse.I would recommend u to use Skin Medica,Neova or Murad cleanser since these cleansers moisturize ur skin while cleansing and gentle to ur skin.U could also opt for Clinique's moisturizer since it hydrates ur skin gently. However,if u would like to opt for remedies at home,I would recommend these 3 different steps for u to try at home.

-Make a puree of 1 banana and 1 papaya, peach or avacado. Apply to skin.Leave on for at least 20 minutes then rinse with warm water, followed by a moisturizer of natural margarine or natural vegetable oil.

-Apply natural mayonnaise, either homemade or from natural foods store.Massage into skin, leave on for 15-20 minutes, rinse thoroughly with warm water.

-Grate the rind of one whole lemon into 4 tablespoons plain yogurt.Mix and rub over entire body concentrating on the driest patches. Rinse.

Well, these are those remedies that would work best for ur skin type.Good luck trying this at home at great skin wishes.Help!!! How do you exfoliate for my dry, flaky, and acne prone skin?!?
I would Not try to exfoliate just yet. Your skin will only flake more if you do that. Use Olay Moisturizer twice a day, after washing your face + Pat dry! Don't Rub when drying off your face after washing! Try not to scratch your face either- even though it is probably itchy! I tried Proactive once upon a time too and it failed for me, so you might want to rethink continueing with it. Plus, for a little while, I would not use any concealers, foundations, and/or especially powders.

I heard people with severe acne aren't supposed to exfoliate, is it true or just BS?

I heard that exfoliating will cut up your acne and actually inflame it and make it worse.

I thought it was best to exfoliate at least twice a week to remove all the layers of dead skin that build up.

I have extremely severe acne and am currently on antibiotics, topical treatments, and next month I will be going on the pill. Don't give me crap about my antibiotics or topical treatments because whenever I ask a question people just give me crap about it. I am not asking for your opinion on my choice of treatments, I am asking you if I should exfoliate or not.

I have been exfoliating with proactive gentle formula with 2% salicylic acid but am returning it because it hasn't been working and am buying the St. Ives scrub for acne prone skin.

Yeah so....

To exfoliate or not to exfolilate?I heard people with severe acne aren't supposed to exfoliate, is it true or just BS?
NO, DO NOT DO IT ! it may leave permanent scars. %26amp; cause infection, then you will have a bigger problem , just do what you are doing. GOOD LUCKI heard people with severe acne aren't supposed to exfoliate, is it true or just BS?
I'm not 100 per cent sure, but my opinion is that it is ok to do so, as long as you are really gentle and don't scrub too hard, otherwise it would aggravate the acne. Also, I would probably do it no more than twice per week.

You should try roacutane, that's what I used as a teenager, and I didn't see another pimple for many years.
I don't think exfoliation will worsen your acne, but it may leave ';ice pick'; scars in the future and these may be difficult to treat. This is from my experience especially with guys with severe acne who picks their acne. Ice pick scars would require dermabrasion procedures, which are expensive.

I hv pimples and acne. is it alright for me to exfoliate my oily face?

Is your skin dry as well. Exfoliation is a great way to remove or sluff off dead/dry skin. But only do it once a week TOPS. If you have overly oily skin, you should try proactiv. I've been using it for my skin, and it cleared up within just a few weeks. I love it. You can get it alot cheaper off of ebay too. Good luck!I hv pimples and acne. is it alright for me to exfoliate my oily face?
It is not true. Rather, using a exfoliater aggrevates oil glands and you will get more pimples. I am a certified skin care analyst placed in Houston and dallas. those scubs spread bacteria and agrivate the spots if you have acne. use exfoliating lotion like clinique 'step 2'. go on oral anti biotics 4 the acne.
I struggled with acne for years and I finally found the solution that works for me. We have been fooled, tricked, deceived, and just plain lied to. It's time that someone put a stop to it, and everyone learn the truth!

Those of us who suffer from acne have usually been given 2 choices and neither of them work:

1. Over the counter remedies such as cleansers, creams, ointments, etc. These things have been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

2. Go see a doctor and or dermatologist. They will generally prescribe prescription drugs which include topicals and or antibiotics. This, too, has been proven over and over again not to work. Why? It does not address the root cause of the problem.

I found a step-by-step program that cured my acne and it has never come back. It is amazing and doesn’t use any drugs or doctors. The truth is that acne can be cured…if we know the secret the doctors and drug companies don’t want us to know.

There is a great website: http://acnehomesolution.com/index.html that has all the details. I really suggest you check it out and see if it works as well for you as it did for me.
yes, i would recommend to start that you just exfoliate with warm water on a wash rag first thing when you get out of bed and right before you go to bed. After you do that for about 8-9 weeks, then exfoliate every other night with Clearasil Daily Care pore cleansing pads. On the days you dont use Clearasil continue with the washing with a wash rag.
i only exfoliate once a week, and i wash my face at least once a day (usually twice a day) with Neutragena Rapid Clear face wash and it is made to control oily skin and it works great! ive been using it for five years and it keeps my skin clear, and i used to have pimples and acne too! so it may be worth a try for you to check it out - it worked for me!

you can buy it at walmart for about $6
yes u can exfoliate ur oily skin but u should use the one that goes with ur skin which means dont ever use things that has oil in their ingrediants..i wish u the best skin ever.. :)
If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.

For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.

Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.

Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

HArd water, soaps, and body acne- the more I exfoliate, the WORSE it gets- please help!?

I checked out this site, and it says that exfoliation and salycylic acid are best for body acne. I use Clean %26amp; Clear with that chemical, and I use a loofah. Our water is well water- harsh and limey. So, what's my next move?

Thanks!HArd water, soaps, and body acne- the more I exfoliate, the WORSE it gets- please help!?
loofahs harbour enough germs and bacteria to kill a horse.

You need a freshly clean washcloth daily. The secretions are coming off and onto what you are washing it with. Oil.

Use an anti-bacterial soap.

If you have sensitive skin exfoliators will only aggrevate it.Be gental or it will be worse. The harder you press the deeper it will go.

Eat the right foods, keep your hair and hands off your face.Drink water.HArd water, soaps, and body acne- the more I exfoliate, the WORSE it gets- please help!?
Your skin is probably irritated from all the scrubbing, which can cause more acne. Just exfoliate with out any washing substance.

Clean first, then put on medication.

Careful with the ex foliating, you don't want to make the skin sensitve and cause a rash.IM USING ACNE MEDICATION DO I FIRST PUT ON MY MEDICATINO THEN EXFOLIATE? OR OPPOSITE.
In general, you should not be both using an acne treatment and exfoliating. The combination can be too irritating. Acne medications cause their own specific form of exfoliation that is more effective than general purpose exfoliation treatmentsIM USING ACNE MEDICATION DO I FIRST PUT ON MY MEDICATINO THEN EXFOLIATE? OR OPPOSITE.
acne medications do not work 80 percent of the time, did you know? Use aloe vera for acne and skin care, it's natural and you dont have to go through all the extra stuff. check out the site below for more info
depending on what the acne medication is!

usually wash skin, exfoliate, rinse, acne medication and moisturise
What the skin needs is a product that clears pores and kills bacteria, thus preventing hair follicles from clogging and turning into acne. This is what you should be looking for if you want to get rid of those ugly acne.

Before trying any treatment, I suggest you read this informational source that listed the most effective acne treatments available:

No. It will help.I exfoliate my skin everyday could that make acne worse?
yes, if your skin is dry, sensitive, and irratation can cause acne. If you irritate your skin, inflammation occurs and the pores will swell up. most people exfoliate 2x's a week at most
